Finding data by theme is often a complex operation since defining what a theme covers is not always clear.
There are three globally acknowledged classification systems for organising geospatial data thematically:

  1. In the EU the Inspire directive sets out a series of inspire themes that must be used by official data providers.Browse Inspire theme list
  2. The ISO topic list is probably the most commonly used. Brows ISO topic list
  3. The United Nations committee of experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) have defined what they call “The Global Fundamental Geospatial Data Themes”

Finally, we at Roskilde University also used UN‘s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to index data that is relevant for each SDG. Browse by SDG
